A young doctor disappears and during the search for him a couple of dead bodies are found, none of which is the doctor's. That's the beginning of this first story about detective Trevor Joseph and his colleague Peter Collins. It is a very well written and captivating story and it was difficult to put down. The characters are very well developed and there is a lot going on in their lives. Having read several of the later books in the series I was a bit hesitant to read this one beacuse I know how their lives develop later. But I found that it didn't really matter, this story was enjoyable anyway, even if it is a better idea to read these books in the right order.

When the plot unravels there are some surprises and that is always good in a mystery novel. However, in this story I found the surprises rather over the top and the whole plot became so implausible that the novel lost the fifth star. I won't go into detail because I don't want to spoil the story, which I still would recommend to fans of, for instance, Peter Robinson.
If you like this book there are severel more in the series to go on with and in my opinion the next two books (Midnight Murders and Murder of a Dead Man) are better than this one.

This books starts out good. Tim, a young doctor disappears on his way to work, and his wife Daisy is left in the nightmare of not knowing where he is gone. The police find two headless and handless bodies along Tim's's route to the hospital and hear reports of a man in a pierrot costume in the vicinity at the time when the murders must have occurred. Neither of the bodies turns out to be Tim's. The two detectives, Trevor Joseph and Peter Collins, work on the case. This is the first book in a series about these two men. Anyway, after a while I discovered I didnt really care about the plot or the persons in it. I was a little bit bored, and the ending didn't give me the thrill, that I get with a really good plot and a superb ending.
The Rollers of Vildar
from the opening prologue i was hooked and never saw the ending coming! i liked the book so much i immediately bought the second trevor joseph novel and read it in one day.

this book is a page turner! i said in my other review of the second book i like this series (so far) because they are more interesting than a cozy and not so overly sweet, but are dangerous without gratuitous violence. a little tasteful sex but again, not overdone. it fit in with the story perfectly.

all in all i am very pleased to find katherine john and plan on reading all the trevor joseph series.

This is the second book in the Trevor Joseph series that I have read, and it lived up to the quality of the first one I read (Midnight Murders). I am so impressed with Katherine John's style of writing that I am determined to read the remaining books in the Trevor Joseph series.
The plot was compelling, and when the murderer was revealed, it took me by surprised, as the characterisation and motivation were developed so subtly and skilfully. Trevor is not your usual British detective, and it is refreshing to find one who is not the usual stubborn maverick. The striking contrast between Trevor and his detective partner, Peter, provides an interesting working relationship.
This book has a wonderful balance of well developed, interesting characters, a compelling plot with lots of twists and turns and a medical setting that was most convincing. I loved it.

The plot was totally bizarre. The actions of the characters were improbable at best, even ludicrous. It is difficult for me to understand why I read the whole book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It kept me on my toes trying to figure out who the culprit was. There were a lot of twists and turns and I was able to nail down most of the twists, but skillful misdirection led me to totally miss the real resolution although there were hints and clues embedded within the plot line. I now have all of the authoress' released books and am enjoying them, also. The second book in the series rivals the this one in its plot.

Another book I really rushed to read.Daisy and Tim Sherringham are a happily married couple of doctors. After a party, Tim gets a call to come to the hospital about 4am. He has diisappeared perhaps dead. Some very nasty murders have taken place on the road to the hospital with body parts missing. Trevor Joseph and his partner Peter are called in to investigate and finally decide the local pier and marina are the danger spots. Some clowns have been spotted one of whom is considered very dangerous and strong. The story is great but the ending is almost science fictional and was hard for me to accept so only 4 stars for this one.
This book started out really well and I thought I had found a winner. But then it got mired, as so many books do, in nothingness. After about 150 pages I was about to give up but I then I thought it might, perhaps, pick up speed. I was wrong. The thing about the pierrot and his musings was excrutiatingly slow and quite unnecessary.
