The late Robert James Waller wrote some best sellers, but I wonder whether they would have moved as well had it not been for the movie, The Bridges of Madison County. I have liked his books, but not loved his writing style - this particular book, though, was a truly compelling and engaging story. The weaving in of characters from a previous book added to the interest, and the dabbling of Native American mysticism, environmental battles, and political corruption gave this particular story some real depth. It is worth reading - probably more than all of Waller's other books.

Robert James Waller crafts a most unusual book in “High Plains Tango.” The novel is certainly evocative and compelling, with characters finely developed. As a whole, the story is seemingly slow-moving and tender; yet, the middle contains a fast-paced free-floating section that barely resonates with the beginning or the end. The novel is difficult to describe, but remains gentle on one’s mind. It is above all, a story: a story well-told and warm. I highly recommend this most unique novel to all general interest readers.

Read it in two days and loved it. Good story line and very descriptive. Having lived in many small towns in California in the fifties and sixty's it was easy to relate. Brought back good memories as well as reminders to live and enjoy everyday.

Waller has a very uniqe style unlike most every other writer. He does have a little bias against Big Agricultue, and government in general, but I have learned to overlook that because I ejoy his story!

Every book that James Waller has published come across with a lot of relevance to places I've lived and experiences I've had. It helps when reading Waller to look at all the books he's written and check the publication dates and then read them in order as they relate to each other with some of the characters being the lead and more developed in one and then another person in another.

Almost as good as Bridges Of Madison County. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys a well written book. Loved it.

I'm only on chapter 10 because i'm so busy right now but I love all 4 of his first books! In fact this author is the only one who has been able to hold my interest! I'm a 73 year old grandma and read his beloved "BRIDGES" about 15 years ago. It was the first book I ever read from cover to cover! Mr. Waller takes you to places you never dreamed of! I'M SO IN LOVE WITH HIM! Plan to buy his other books!
Anything you read by Robert James Waller (or listen to, he has a CD), is always excellent. He has a special and unique way of writing.
