It is called Living, Loving and Lying Awake at Night and is by Sindiwe Magona. The first half of it is about domestic help in South Africa. The second half is a grouping of short stories of domestic help there also. I could not put it down. I began it late last night and read a third of it before I fell asleep and woke when the book smacked my nose. I finished it when we got home from town tonight. I found it to be very fascinating and there are a couple of real heart grabbers amongst the shorts.

Stop whatever you're doing and read this fucking book. I rarely give all-encompassing recommendations but I genuinely think everyone should read this collection of short stories by Sindiwe Magona. A fair book, as it has been described by another reader.
This collection of short stories focuses mainly in racial seggregation and prejudice. The fact that "white people" do not even consider blacks as "human" is the main theme, with all the underlying aspects. One of the chapters is a bit more optimistic - the story of one girl that manages to overcome her condition, but overall I believe it is a sad book. Honestly, after reading many good reviews în Goodreads, I expected more. But, as I have said in the beggining, it's a fair book.

I ACTUALLY HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK YET, BUT I DO INTEND TO PURCHASE IT. I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I SAW SINDIWE ON THE BOOK CHANNEL FOR THE HARLEM BOOK FAIR I BELIEVE, IT WAS ON VERY LATE SO I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT KNOWING THE FACTS..I WAS CONCENTRATING ON REMEMBERING THE TITLE OF HER BOOK. AND I MUST SAY SHE WAS THE CUTEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN, VERY CHARISMATIC AND FULL OF BEAUTIFUL GLORIOUS LIGHT. HER FIESTYNESS AND HUGE LOVING EYES INSPIRED ME SOMEHOW WITHIN. HER PERSONALITY ALONE ENCOURAGED ME TO BUY THIS BOOK. I WILL WRITE A REVIEW ONCE I READ IT THOUGH :) THANK-YOU ;)
