Remo Williams is The Destroyer, an all-American cop recruited-through highly unorthodox methods-by a secret government law-enforcement organization. Trained in the esoteric martial art of Sinanju by his aged Korean mentor, Chiun, Remo is America's last line of defense against mad scientists, organized crime, ancient undead gods, and anything else that threatens the Constitution.

Genre: Detective science fiction. Read a fragment illustrations. He retired from the Destroyers a couple of years ago and took his name off the books when he decided he didn't want anybody to know he knew me. I helped him make this decision by locking him in my cellar for eight days without water. Nevertheless, he still hangs around.

Remo and Chiun must focus on the dizzy series of event connecting the banana republic of Hispania, the Peaches of Mecca, and a luscious blonde named Gloria X. The missing link lies in the tequila-soaked brain of Barney Daniels, an ex-CIA agent who is spirited away to a mental hospital when he tips a few wild stories to the press. Under the influence of an intoxicating woman, the groggy sot becomes a hired assassin and gets into some tight situations. Every cutthroat in New York City is plying him with drinks to find out what he knows, and Daniels is having a high time . . . until someone slips him a mickey. It all comes back to his staggering memory in a dream: it's not the U.S. but the Russkies who are pouring missiles into the lush jungles of Hispania. Unless Remo and Chiun act fast, Washington, D.C. is likely to get blasted.
I would have given this episode a higher rating because of it being a more in depth story but Remo and Chiun play second fiddle to the other characters.
Awesome book. The authors outdid themselves. Spell binding. The words of yesteryear still hold true today. Couldn't put it down.

Great book
Cheap pulp fiction at it's finest. I celebrate the entire destroyer series. If you read one, you have to read them all.
I'm on my second read of the entire series and look forward to a third in a few years. I'd recommend the series to anyone with a desire for a fun read and a sense of humor.
The Destroyer #44: “Balance of Power” by Warren Murphy (Warren Murphy, Richard Sapir, and Molly Cochran). This was the 10th Anniversary Special Collectors Edition. It was also an oddity. Almost reading like two stories, we follow Barney C. Daniels through most of the tale, for it’s really his story. A CIA agent stationed in Puerta Del Rey, Hispania, he discovers Russia and El Presidente are stockpiling nukes on the island, and plan on firing them at America. Barnie’s wife is caught, raped, mutilated, and killed, then he is taken into the jungle and tortured and brainwashed. Escaping with the help of a boy soldier, he makes it back to civilization but only knows what was fed to his mind while in captivity. Remo and Chiun are sent to kill him, then Smith changes his mind, and Barney is left to his own. But Remo and Chiun are now to protect Barney, because people are trying to kill him. Chiun and Remo are mostly in the background, and it’s Barney that the reader follows to the final conclusion. However, it is a good story. I’m guessing, but I bet Molly Cochran created the story of Barney.
