Dennis Lehane (Author), Jim Frangione (Reader). I don't think Dennis Lehane has it in him to write a bad book, but of the six or seven I have read, "Live by Night" was the most disappointing.
Dennis Lehane (Author), Jim Frangione (Reader). Book 2 of 3 in the Coughlin Series. It may be that the subject matter does not have much appeal for me. "The Given Day" is just as bloody and violent but it's also inspiring.
Dennis Lehane is the author of ten previous novels-including the New York Times bestsellers Live by Night; Moonlight Mile; Gone, Baby, Gone; Mystic River; Shutter Island; and The Given Day-as well as Coronado, a collection of short stories and a play. He and his wife, Angie, currently live in California with their children.

Here's some info about me as an actor, director and audiobook narrator. New mother Layla's love for renegade vampire X. Jim Frangione. 6 October 2017 ·. Just closed my play, Flight of the Monarch, at Gloucester Stage Company and couldn't be happier with the production, the terrific actors Nancy Carroll and Tucker Smith, and the beautiful direction by my old friend Jeff Zinn.
Dennis Lehane’s story is continually on th. Joe Coughlin pulls himself up in 1920s Boston amid the rum runners of Prohibition and becomes a survivor. Dennis Lehane’s story is continually on the move-from the streets to prison walls to the Gulf Coast of Florida. If Jim Frangione’s narration has a flaw, it is only in the protagonist’s voice, which rarely dips into a Boston-Irish accent. But this weakness does not mar the overall production. Supporting characters are varied and colorful: An older Italian man’s emotions range from kindly to vicious.

“A standout writer.”—Los Angeles Times Book Review
“[Dennis Lehane] deserves to be included among the most interesting and accomplished American novelists of any genre or category.”—Washington Post Book World
From Gone, Baby, Gone to Mystic River to Shutter Island to The Given Day, the phenomenal Dennis Lehane has proven himself to be one of the most versatile and exciting novelists working in America today—whether he’s breaking new ground with uniquely inventive psychological suspense, redefining the detective story, or bringing a bygone era to life with sweeping and masterful historical fiction. He’s back with Live by Night, an epic, unflinching tale of the making and unmaking of a gangster in the Prohibition Era of the Roaring Twenties. Meticulously researched and artfully told, Live by Night is the riveting story of one man’s rise from Boston petty thief to the Gulf Coast’s most successful rum runner, and it proves again that the accolades New York Times bestseller Lehane consistently receives are well deserved. He is indeed, “a master” (Philadelphia Inquirer) whose “true literary forefathers include John Steinbeck as well as Raymond Chandler” (Baltimore Sun). And, “Boy, does he know how to write” (Elmore Leonard).
