In search of a peaceful life on a 26-acre ranch in the mountains, Jack instead finds himself embroiled in a con that may leave him and those he cares for most with a loss far greater than money. The action and intrigue grows as Jack wrestles with a ruthless assortment of bunko artists like Mattie Helms, who is beautiful, intelligent, and unscrupulous; and her goon, Irvin MacSwain: a psychotic, drug-using alcoholic killer who enjoys his work far too much. As Jack tries to reconcile his own killer instincts with his new life, betrayal and murder wait for him and his friends at every turn-but will the actions of one man help save the good guys in the end? Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves delivers a powerful punch that engages the reader until the last page. Larry Seeley's award winning suspense novel, Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves is a real page turner. Once I got caught up in the action I could not put the book down.
An army veteran, Larry who speaks, reads and writes fluent Arabic, is a former CEO of the gaming firm that built the first Native casino in Maritime Canada. Larry is also a former professional blackjack player. Con artists and swindlers swarmed Native casinos in the early days, learning how to deal with them and discovering whom you could trust and who had a knife at your back gave Larry a distinct edge in figuring people out. This background gave his character creation a definite advantage.
Jack Sloan, the main character in this novel, represents all good guys who are caught in bad situations and must make agonizing decisions between right and wrong, good and evil, and do what is necessary. This story of murder and revenge is set in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, where Jack settled in search of a peaceful life on a 26 acre ranch, but instead, finds himself embroiled in a con. Jack's number one enemy is a lady banker who runs financial cons on a large scale and is looking to avenge the death of her partner on their last job together. Hunting Jack Sloan down is the name of her game. Everything builds up steam for a major blowout and the book comes to a surprising ending. The story is filled with explosive action that matches up with the different characters in the plot. The good and bad guys are all maneuvering to out think the other.

Reading Gypsies, Tramps, and Thieves was like watching an action movie where you become part of the cast. I already ordered and am looking forward to reading the 2 sequels to this Trilogy: 17 Degrees North, and The Bridge of the Americas.

This is a strong buy for your holiday reading. If you like suspense and mystery delivered by a novelist who knows how to create an exciting script, order Gypsies,Tramps, and Thieves now!

Fast-paced prose that grabs you on the first page. The players in this drama are real people, some of whom I would hate to meet on the street at high noon, much less in an adversarial position in the dark, real sociopaths. The hero, his love and his friends have a relationship that is enviable, desirable which exhibits a loyalty that is a rarity in the modern world, and nothing short of miraculous. The author has a real grasp of the Pueblo Indian culture in the 21st century as the tribes grapple with Indian gaming and the need for not so wholesome assistance in achieving success. A good read -- no dead space in the action. Once you read the first paragraph, it is non-stop action with not so predictable twists and turns.

I don't typically read mysteries, but this one was terrific. It's set in Santa Fe and really gives the feel of the area. The protagonist, Jack Sloan is real and not over the top. I am looking forward to the next one.

Larry Seeley, a budding novelist stuck out in the middle of nowhere in a tiny New Mexico canyon, has one vivid imagination. I ordered a copy of "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves" because I liked the sound of the title. Little did I realize that I would be spending my entire Friday night and Saturday afternoon stuck in a chair while biting my nails and waiting for the last shoe to drop. I'm not going to tell you what happens in "Gypsies." Just be ready for surprise after surprise, loathing, and a tiny tinge of creepiness. When are we going to have another Jack Sloan novel? I want it NOW!

I purchased the book because of the engrossing sample (first) chapter and the good reviews. Unfortunately, after the first few pages, things move in a very predictable manner, you can guess the events accurately.
However, the book has its moments, and while I am not sure why so many people have given this book a high rating, but for me it’s a okay read.
