Hardback Large Print Book.

This was a rather large detail that held the reader back from an early connection with the story characters and their problems. The photographic detail of the father's passion was outstanding and his disconnection with the world around him was beautifully done. This quality of writing lifted the story out of the ordinary.

I have to admit I struggled though this book. It started out to catch my interest, but then it started dragging. The content regarding Ethan Leighton, the embattled politician who is at the core of much of the mystery, especially is weighed down with details which, in my opinion, served only to divert from the plot. I finally finished the book. The ending had its share of thrills, what with Alex Cooper enduring yet another harrowing experience, and the mystery finally unraveling. Fine points of the mystery were revealed at the end. Nonetheless, it has been more an exercise in tedium rather than an enthralling experience reading this book. It's my opinion this is not one of Linda Fairstein's better efforts.

Fascinating. Compelling stand-alone that is easy to follow. Storyline focuses on human trafficking.

Believable characters with distinct personalities. Interesting, informative and thought-provoking dialogue. The history lessons throughout her stories are an added bonus.

I will re-read this story and always look forward to new works by this author.

It's always nice to be familiar with the location of a book, and this one was even more fun because I have never been to any of the places except Poe cottage. The actual mystery through a light on human trafficking and it was a great read as usual. I am glad that Alex always manages to overcome the obstacles in her way.

I have been trying to catch up with all of her books and have started on #13 today. I saw the segment about the author on CBS Sunday Morning and started downloading number 1.
Anyone who likes Mystery will love her books.

Linda Fairstein is known for writing intelligent, well-plotted mysteries, and HELL GATE adds a layer of political intrigue that makes this a particularly potent installment of the Alex Cooper series. I was surprised to see that the book got so many negative reviews, but as I read them I noticed that many readers are upset about the fact that the characters of Alex and Mike seem to be moving towards a romantic relationship. I have mixed feelings about that relationship myself (I want to punch Mike every time he calls Alex "princess"), but it in no way affected my enjoyment of this thrilling, satisfying mystery.

I've only lived in NYC since 2010 so Linda Fairstein has taken me on explorations I have really enjoyed. This one took place in my own neighborhood focusing n Gracie Mansion. Wow. Fascinating.

I liked the side historical lessons that the writer wove into the mystery. The characters were very likeable. However, all the names and positions were hard to figure out as the plot grew. Made reading this book difficult.
This author's books are timely and accurate about current problems. This book was thrilling but kept you guessing about the bad guys.
