Immortal In Death is the third book in . Robb’s In Death series. Even though this story takes place in 2058, it’s one that even today we read about in any newspaper on any given day, or watch on prime time news: Drugs. They make you feel good. Make you think you’re immortal. She was one of the most sought after women in the world. A top model who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted - even.

‘Now for the grand prize and part three. But she didn’t know what the hell they’d been called in for. Not until she was ushered in and saw Casto and his captain. Lieutenant, Officer,’ Tibble gestured to chairs. What connects these two seemingly unrelated murders?’ Peabody looked down at the screen.

Mavis Freestone, slim as a fairy in her white and gold rompers and three-inch air platforms, tossed back her curling mane of white-streaked black hair, judged her opponent, and grinned. He’s going to make you the most rocking bride in New York.

She was one of the most sought after women in the world. A top model who would stop at nothing to get what she wanted - even another woman's man. And now she was dead, the victim of a brutal murder. Police lieutenant Eve Dallas put her professional life on the line to take the case when suspicion fell on her best friend, the other woman in the fatal love triangle. Beneath the façade of glamour, Eve found that the world of high fashion thrived on an all-consuming obsession for youth and fame. One that led from the runway to the dark underworld of New York City where drugs could be found to fulfill any desire - for a price . . .
This is a re-read of Immoral in Death, as I purge my paperback editions for kindle books. The in Death series is my all-time favorite mystery/romance. Immortal being one of my stand out favorite.

In this third book Let. Eve Dallas finds herself doing the thing she's never imagined doing, getting married. Not to just anyone but, the richest man on or off planet Roarke in the year 2058. She can't believe that she's going to be the bride of a high society wedding.

Eve is mentally preparing herself for the torture she envisions wedding dress shopping to be with her best friend Mavis Freestone. To say they don't have the fashion sense is putting it mildly.

Wedding dress shopping becomes even more eventful and stressful than even Eve could have foreseen happening and evolving into a case that is one that has many twists and turns that keep the whole team on their toes.

I would highly recommend this series to others who enjoy police dramas or mystery/romance series. These have a touch of futuristic and sci-fi elements.
I do enjoy reading this series and have had my nose stuck in one of the offerings for sometime now. I have not read these books in order of publication but that has no hampered my reading enjoyment. One thing I have noted after reading many, many reviews on this book and others in the series is that readers either love (the vast majority) or they hate them; to each his or her own to my way of thinking.

This is the third book in the series and we have at least one new character introduced in this one, a character which will show up quite often in future books. We also get more background on the character Summerset. Eve and Roarke are preparing for their wedding.

This one is interesting as Eve’s closest friend is the primary suspect in three or four rather brutal murders and Eve is faced with not only finding the killer or killers but also proving beyond a doubt that her friend is innocent.

There is of course the romance element in this on as in all the novels in this series which may or may not add to the story depending upon your taste. I personally feel the author has not over done this aspect of her story telling in this one. The mystery portion of this book is not all that difficult to figure out but this does not distract all that much...depends upon what you want in your murder mystery or police procedurals. Personally I do not read these things for the ‘who done it’ aspect of the story but that is just me.

This was a good read and as I only have a few more that twenty books to catch up on I was rather happy to latch on to this one.
I am reading everything's on my Kindle keyboard before I start using my Paperwhite. Came across a whole bunch of books by J D Robb and I have been binging on them this week.

J D Robb, as you probably know, also writes romance as Norah Roberts. Writing as J D Robb, however, her style is darker and grittier.

This is a series of mysteries set in the not too far distant future when the earth has colonized a lot of planets, societal norms have changed in some ways, yet law and order remains law and order and the police are there to protect and serve.

This series chronicles the cases of Eve Dallas as she investigates murders and believes it is her vocation to stand for the dead, to see that they get justice.

In my opinion, a person is going to love these books or hate them, I happen to love them.

Well written, strongly developed characters, detailed plots. Someone is doing research and I appreciate that. Of course, there are some love stories woven in because that is part of life, after all, it can't be all grim.
"Getting married was murder."

FINAL DECISION: The book is one of the best blend between the personal as Eve tries to exonerate her friend from suspicion of murder and Eve battling her own personal demons. Twisty and personal.

THE STORY: Eve is racing against time as the woman who is her best friend (gosh, that sounds juvenile) is accused of the murder of the ex of her current lover. Eve must find out who killed the famous model.

OPINION: First, to get the mystery out of the way.  This story is compelling because of Eve being driver to solve the crime to save her friend. This is a good one. Plenty of suspects and the ultimate solution worked very well -- especially upon re-reading where the clues are obvious. Good pacing and good set up makes this one of the mysteries that I really enjoyed in the series.

But for me, the value of this book is the leap that the relationship between Eve and Roarke takes. As part of Eve's past is revealed, I loved seeing not only how Eve deals with it, but also the effect it has on Roarke.

"She was, he thought, capable, strong, and resilient. Whatever wounds she had, she would live with. She didn't need him to heal, but to accept."

For me, this is what makes this series so effective. Eve is strong and Roarke only helps her be even stronger and more centered. But she is independent and strong on her own. This works so well in the series. This book really begins to delve more deeply into their connection which grows beyond the cop and (former) criminal rich guy trope.

One of the essential books in the series.

WORTH MENTIONING: Eve and Roarke are planning their wedding and some of Eve's hidden past is revealed.

CONNECTED BOOKS: IMMORTAL IN DEATH is the third book in the In Death series. While the mystery in this book is completely self-contained, I think the overarching storyline dealing with Eve and Roarke makes these books so I recommend reading the series in order.

STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.
