What visitor to the Caribbean has not been entranced by the beauty and spirit of its tropical islands? In Caribbean Style, more than 600 spectacular full-color photographs and an illuminating text re-create the houses, gardens, and lifestyle of this enchanting region. A trendsetting book that combines travel and design, Caribbean Style offers a previously unseen view of the islands of Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Bartélémy, Antigua, Nevis, Montserrat, Barbados, Haiti, and Jamaica. The book includes information on island vegetation and colors, plantation houses, town houses, popular houses, contemporary houses, and gardens. In addition, the Architectural Notebook provides plans and information on different types of houses on the various islands. These pages take you from plantation manor houses with gracious verandahs that catch the mild, cooling winds to brightly painted native dwellings adorned with imaginative wood trim; from colonial plantation gardens with rows of majestic palm trees and winding water canals left from earlier days to simple town-house gardens with bright patches of bougainvilleas. Caribbean Style explodes with an intense profusion of images and colors. With this vivid portrait of the Caribbean, you will almost feel the soft breezes, inhale the fragrance of tropical flowers, and luxuriate in the warmth of the sun. A photographic celebration of the designs and lifestyles of the sundrenched islands.

Striking colors (don't try this in Michigan), open porches, folk art as living space in the simple and grand houses of the islands.
An art form that is now part of the time line of the Caribbean and survivor of climate, redevelopment, and the hoards of tourists. Caribbean Style is a review of life style, soften by the breezes and sweet scents of the tropics. Walk the streets of a gracious time, where neighbor met neighbor from the shaded porch as you read the text while the photographs invite you into a gentle and happy time frame.

A classic book in many senses of the word, with an intrinsic timelessness to it

I got this because I read it's one of Rachel Ashwell's top three books for design inspiration. Anyone who loves Shabby Chic and looks through the book can see it's very clear how true that is. Very nice quality with beautiful photos and wonderful colors!
Nikobar
I love the airy look and feel of this style. The local cabinet makers have given us an attractive version of early 19th Century furniture.

While mostly on Haiti, there are a few photos of other islands. An interesting take on places one doesn't often see.. Good quality photographs by Gilles de Chabaneix, too.
Mr_Mix
Great pictures. So much color in the rooms.

This book is great for color ideas and style elements. I keep it as an ongoing resource of ideas and inspiration.
The book had exactly what I wanted, lovely photos, good descriptions. The condition was exactly as advertised, and the service was quick.
