I thought this was an exquisite book. It transported me to a place of gracious and tasteful luxury. It reminded me that some people still create a beautiful space for family and guests, taking the time to set the stage with grace and warmth. As an author, I enjoyed her prose and beautiful pictures. As a lover of the mountains and Aspen,I envied her guests. As a hostess with a dish fetish, I wondered how she finds the energy to pull all of the guests and events and find the time to journal and write. Some may say, "I don't have the time or resources," but her book is full ideas for the everyday meal and dinner party. Charlotte is one who sustains culture, something many have lost, in her artistic and thoughtful life and work. I found escape and comfort in her book.

i have loved this book since it first appeared, but the cost was prohibitive. Thus, I was happy to find it discounted at Amazon.

I consider Charlotte Moss's decorating ideas classic, lasting and always in good taste. Her suggestions are clever without being trendy and can enhance any traditional interior. There are many books which provide ideas for winter holiday decors, yet few-- like this one-- which feature general ideas to add winter cheer. I am reading the book during the January 2016 "blizzard" and it helps me to continue to enjoy the snugness and beauty of the winter season-- despite the inconveniences. The beautiful illustrations provide ideas for decorating every room of the house. Moss explains in detail what inspired her to do each room.

The only down-side for me is that the house she decorated is located in western ski country. Thus, some of the ideas are regional. But, on the whole, the suggestions will apply to any home.

I have concluded that in the future, where books on decor, landscaping, and such like are concerned, I should always examine the book in person before I purchase. For one thing, they are large and eventually can preempt bookcase space. For another, since they are expensive, they cut into a book-buying budget. However, "Winter House" by Charlotte Moss was reviewed and summarized as possessing a unique slant. That caught my attention.

When it arrived the book itself was in splendid condition. It was pretty, with lots of illustrations and these profuse in their detail, with good colors. However, the book itself was a disappointment.

The text seemed to repeat itself a lot, its raison d'etre was flimsy, its cohereence and finish were weak. We don't expect a book on decor to be too serious on thought, or even to hold out very many "ideas"; or at least, I don't. But I do want a focus of some sort, and to hear a few things that are fresh. There needs to be something more than "spend a lot of money."

If Miss Moss was not original, there was one feature to her book which I enjoyed. She is an heiress of sorts: her southern grandmother worked professionally in table textiles and tableware for many years and established a tradition of Sunday afternoon brunches at her home displaying quality table presentations and every sort of table detail.Charlotte Moss learned it all as a child. Now, in addition to the things handed down to her, she collects table textiles. Her love of fine tableware, good textiles, and lovely professional flower arrangements all come across in her book and enrich it. It is contagious. That part of "Winter House" I enjoyed, while overall, I DO consider the book a disappointment.

Very nice book, but I think cover is misleading as to content

I read it from cover to cover! I enjoyed this book very much.
I thought it would have more decorating, heart to it. I was looking for a picture book that would inspire me with many more pictures of how I could cozy up my Midwestern home in the dead of our over long winter season. What is there is nice, just wish there were more attainable ideas within. What is offered is very nice, well done. Just left me wanting more moderate options...
