Crazy Quilted Memories by Brian Haggard is a gorgeous book with wonderful inspiration for making your family pictures and small heirloom collectibles into a work of art. The instructions are quite detailed, including various embroidery patterns and stitches to use as accents. Most everyone who sews has an accumulation of buttons, laces, beads, and such that can be used on these projects. I absolutely love this concept and plan to create a family gallery of photos on a wall hanging featuring some of my ancestors using some of the author's techniques and tips.

With the economy in the dumps and struggling to survive, I often treat myself with a visit to Amazon. It's my way of shopping with out actually going anywhere. (gas prices!) I can browse with out the pressure of purchase. Came across Brian Haggard, Author of Crazy Quilted Memories. At first sight of the cover it intrigued me. Loving vintage and the thought provoking images of the past, it pulled me in. Viewing the pages on Amazon, it was better than good. It immediately inspired my emotions and it was a purchase I felt was a good investment.
It did not disappoint. His easy way of writting instructions and the bit of personal information makes it feel like he's an instant friend. Plenty of beauitful photographes and drawings detailing stitching & embellishments.
All his work looks as if it stepped right out of the past. His free thinking way of design and 'no pressure' manner is refreshing.
If you love vintage and/or want to make fabric art pieces to hand down for future generations, this book will inspire you to do so.
I can't wait to get started on my first inspired Brian Haggard (vintage looking) quilt! Only one bit of info left out...where to purchase Brian's Aging Mist?!

I do not take recommending things lightly. (And do not review items I don't like) Not everyone has the same taste... but I have now made this my official 'go to' book. Newbie quilters/fabric artist/sewers and/or people that enjoy making an art piece from cloth & love vintage, can now feel pressureless. (hope that's a real word) If Brian teaches his class's as well as he has written this book....he will be inspiring many with creativity... & doing so for a long time. He is a real inspiration Angel. The pressure is on for the next book, I'm sure!

I agree that this is a beautiful and inspiring book. But buyers need to know that it relies heavily on scanners, photo-editing programs, and specialized materials such as printer fabrics. In addition, the construction and embroidery techniques are--by the author's admission--"free form". It is a book for people with some skills in all these fields. I loved looking through it, but know it is beyond my skills, so returned it.

I saw this book advertised in a magazine and checked it out from the library. I love Brian's color schemes and his relaxed approach to creating these little masterpieces and had to own this book. I am not a real experienced embroiderer (although I've quilted for years) and I don't find any of his projects intimidating. I also bought Brian's newer book " Embroidered Memories" and recommend that one only as an augment to this book. I'm anxious to start my first project!

For any quilter wanting to add to the beauty of their quilt this book is a must--even if you do not do crazy quilts. There are so many suggestions on color selections and embellishments using practical items a quilter most likely has around her. Embroidering by hand the designs that are meaningful to her quilting is also a great idea from this book. What a joy!!!

I saw the author of this book on a web show and thought I need that book. The book is very nice with great instructions and illustrations. I hope someday to make a few of the items in the book I think they would be fun. I am already starting to collect and gather some of the embellishments I think would be nice on my projects. Will be able to preserve some wonderful memories forever.

Brian Haggard is a wonderful author and the preface of this book is so magical. I am so excited to work on the projects from this book, which are, by the way, amazing. The instructions are great and easy to follow. The pictures show you what to do. A great book for any quilter, fiber artist, or generally crafty person.

I inherited all my mother's pictures when she died and hope to one day get them all scanned and some of them into wall hangings for my family. That will take some time, I know, but I will have this nice crazy-quilt book to help me along. I really like the way it gives me a pattern but also encourages me to follow my own heart.
It's always interesting to see crazy quilt work from a male perspective. Brian Haggard has some wonderfully creative ways of embellishing the seams with embroidery stitches and buttons. In the back of the book, he includes patterns in a series he calls Design Inspiration. I shall be borrowing from his ideas in my next crazy quilt.

Happily crazy quilting,
Sherrill in Oklahoma
