Religion in America book

Religion in America book. I learned more about religion in 19th-century America by reading Daniel Walker Howe's "What Hath God Wrought" - which covers only 30 years of the century and isn't intended to focus only on religion - than I did by reading this actual textbook about religion in America. On the one hand, John Corrigan (revising Winthrop Hudson's old chestnut of a textbook) wants to highlight diversity, religious pluralism, and cultural exchange in American religious history.

This comprehensive narrative account of religion in America from 1607 through the present depicts the religious life of the American people within the context of American society. It addresses topics ranging from the European/Puritan origins of American religious thought, the ramifications of the “Great Awakening”, the effect of nationhood on religious practice, and the shifting religious configuration of the late 20th century.

The best textbook to date in the field of religion in America. It should be on everybody's shelves. A must for anyone who wants to have an historical view of religion.

As a person who has used the 6th edition for years and moved to others that were more updated, I found this edition to be a step up. It is filled with facts much more than story. As I expect another edition shortly I will wait to make it the reequired text for my classes but will continue to use it as a very good reference book.

I needed this textbook for an online college course. I enjoyed the book itself. It gave great insight into the religious history of America. But my reason for writing this review has to do with Amazon's stellar shipping process.

I must give Amazon props for their packaging. I ordered books through my university's online bookstore and had them shipped to my home. When I received them, the packaging was torn and the books were worn on the sides that had been exposed to the elements due to faulty packaging. I was apprehensive about purchasing heavy textbooks from Amazon, but I was pleasantly surprised. The textbook was in great condition and packaged very well, in a box (instead of the horrible mailer bag that my university used). I will now be purchasing all of my textbooks from Amazon. Thank you so much for you exceptional service, as always.

Very interesting and informative, however I had to buy this book for school.

This book has some great information that I did not expect. It definitely has increased my knowledge on the subject. I would have rated it higher if it was in a kindle.
Iriar
Great Book.
Vutaur
Everything that was expected.
I'm not sure that this textbook will last all semester. The cover is in bad condition; the back cover is torn and the front cover has a deep fold that may tear with use.
