This book tells you about Jewish culture and history from about the time of the captivity after the 1st temple through to Romans. As a history book it is poor at best, entirely discounting reams of archealogical scholarship in favor of using Jewish sources which had significantly less information in some cases than other contemporary non-Jewish sources. This symbolic prophecy refers to the Jews living in Jerusalem in the Last Days. History of the Jewish Temple King David desired to build a temple for God, but because he had been a warrior God would not use him for this purpose. King David raised money and materials that would later be used by his son King Solomon to build a temple. Many people have set up funds for the reconstruction of the temple-millions of dollars! But there is a problem-the Islamic Temple stands on the site and as long as it is there it is unlikely the new temple will be built there. We do know that a new temple will be built-how or when is only a guess.

Sometimes it got him into trouble-when he "borrowed" Papa's best quill pen, when he drew the cows instead of milking them for Mama, when he used the cat's fur for brushes-but it also led him to some surprising adventures.

This book tells you about Jewish culture and history from about the time of the captivity after the 1st temple through to Romans. I'm on chapter 18 or 19 right now. You learn about the Antiochus Epiphanes and successor Antiochus leaders, then the Ptolemies(pharaohs), then Seleucid kings and now I just finished reading about Antipater then Herod his son the Roman leaders Julius Caeser, Caesar Agustus.

you'll read about the inner fightings of the jewish sanhedrin (Tzadokim) sects of sadducees and Pharisees(sages) how the sadducees started bloody battles for control in Israel as well.

then Learn about how Herod took control over Israel as an edomite king trying to play to his lust for power.

As is true with many Artscroll books, Artscroll picks and chooses it's source material with little regard to accuracy, allowing their choices to be swayed by theologically derived personnal opinions. This book is a reflection of that mentality. As a history book it is poor at best, entirely discounting reams of archealogical scholarship in favor of using Jewish sources which had significantly less information in some cases than other contemporary non-Jewish sources. If you want a history book, try "From Text To Tradition" by Lawrence Schiffman. If you want an idealogically tinged fake-history designed to paint fairytale like pictures for 12 years olds, this is the book for you.
