This is a very insightful book on one of the great figures of the 20th century. The fact that he is the brother of the Field Marshall and also a military officer gives us a rare glimpse into what made Monty tick. I thoroughly recommend it.

I never cared for the Field Marshall and care for him even less now. What a swelled head he had. I have to agree with Gen Patton if he really said this "Hell Brad I know I'm a primadonna and I admit it. The problem with Montgomery is he won't"
Market Garden failed because of that swelled head and we lost thousands of good troops. He did not study his map nor did he plan for delays. The "rescue" force was delayed because they ran into German units which forced the tanks off the road onto terrain not suited for tanks. Monty always insisted upon superior numbers vs the enemy before he did anything! American Generals did not wait they attacked. They sometimes fought outnumbered and still won!! Remember Bastogne? NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!!
