A Colonial Woman book. Mary Braidwood Mowle arrived in Sydney in 1836 at the age of nine aboard. Mary Braidwood Mowle (3 August 1827 - 15 September 1857) was born in Durham, UK. She was the first child of Thomas Braidwood Wilson, a Scottish-born naval surgeon and his wife Jane (née Thompson). Mary arrived in Sydney, on 24 June 1836, on the Strathfieldsaye. Mary Patricia Clarke (born 30 July 1926) is a writer, historian and former journalist who now writes about nineteenth century women in Australia. Patricia was born in Alphington, Melbourne to John L. Ryan, a teacher, and Annie T. Ryan (nee McSweeney). She was educated in Melbourne until the family moved to Sale where she went to secondary school and then at. the University of Melbourne.
