I downloaded this to my kindle 3 the other day. It seems to have what i'm looking for in food count breakdowns. Although I should have purchased the hardcover. In the kindle, to search you have to hit "menu", then "search this book", then write in a keyword. It will list several to many variations you can look up. so far not so bad. When you click on one of them it will bring you to that section of the book. You have to change the print to small to see all the counts. My problem is when you go forward or backwards on the pages, it's slow, real slow retrieving information, and it's locked me up a couple times. That's not something you want to experience with your kindle. I had to shut off and restart the kindle to get it to come back to life. A blank screen for a couple of minutes is scary. Get the hardcover version.

The nutrition guides provided in The Pocket Calorie Counter 2012 cover everything you'd ever hope to eat in the United States. It was purchased for my college-age daughter, who keeps track of what she eats and tries to maintain good nutrition at all times. We tried to find a guide that was thorough in the information provided, and broad in the types of food it covered. We never did find a type of food available to her that wasn't covered in the book. Good going, Suzanne Beilenson! Your book provided everything my daughter needed to stay healthy in college. Rather than gain the Freshman Fifteen, she lost twenty pounds during her first semester. Thanks for the help.

This book is alright but doesn't have the best selection of foods to choose from and doesn't list everything in weight (which I think is easier to measure, especially in regards to meat portions, etc.). The restaurant section isnt't the best either as more than half of the restaurants listed aren't even located where I live and also don't have very specific portion information. All in all it is an OK, basic calorie counting book but not the best I have seen. However, the size is nice for taking with you everywhere.

This Pocket Calorie Counter is great. The ONLY improvement I would want is to include one of those little "credit card sized magnifiers" to read the fine print. It can be cumbersome to constantly have to reach for my reading glasses each time I want to check something. As for the content - fantastic! Very comprehensive and can be carried in even a small purse. I like it!

I thought I was ordering a food journal with some informational inserts on popular restaurants. I feel mislead by both the title and the description, which boast: "Pocket Calorie Counter - Keep track of everything you eat and drink."
This is not a journal. Since I have a strict diet, none of the restaurant guides were to any use for me, but if you're a frequent restaurant goer, this may be for you.

They should rename this to "Restaurant Calorie Guide" and not "Calorie Counter." You won't be counting calories with this item, just referencing published nutritional information.

I will return this.

It is separated into two parts, food in general and eating out in the United States. I would like for it to include more information on food in general and how different methods of cooking affect the Calorie intake of food. I don't eat out much and though it gives various information on the general foods it did include. I was left wanting more.

"The Pocket Calorie Counter 2012 Edition" is more compact than I could ever hope to be. The introductory information is well-worth reading. I learned how many calories I should intake, considering my size and age, by figuring my basal metabolic rate--I didn't know I had one. I also learned to figure my body mass index. These numbers give me some targets to try for.

The basic calorie information included fats, saturated fats, sodium, and even fiber. The second part of the book lists foods offered at well-known restaurants.

Finally, it is a "pocket" book, made to endure sliding around in a good-sized purse. A man could carry it in his coat pocket.

Anyone serious about dieting would benefit greatly from this little book.

This is very useful and I have used it a few times when going out to eat. I recommend this for anyone who is trying to watch a certain aspect of thier food intake or needs a ref. guide for foods. There is a new edition every year though so pick up the updated one.
