Murray Leinster, called the dean of modern science-fiction, was writing amazing super-science adventures in the early twenties before there ever was such a thing. His short stories, novelettes, and serial novels have appeared in most of the major American magazines, both slick and pulp, and many have been reprinted all over the world. There were only 30 minutes to live! Joe Kenmore heard the airlock close with a sickening wheeze and then a clank.

He wrote and published more than 1,500 short stories and articles, 14 movie scripts, and hundreds of radio scripts and television plays. Leinster was born in Norfolk, Virginia, the son of George B. Jenkins and Mary L. Jenkins.

My blog is back! Today's post is about a book collecting the non-SF stories of Will F. Jenkins (better known in SF as Murray Leinster). Murray Leinster was an American science fiction writer who penned more than 1,500 short stories and articles along with a raft of novels. g content in pulp's golden age and saw many tales bundled and reprinted post war.

Popular books in Short Story, Science Fiction, Adventure, Post-1930, Fiction and Literature. Murray Leinster never had a particularly sophisticated writing style but plenty of imagination and sense of adventure. As for sexual metaphors in his works, he wasn't that subtle. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The Art of Public Speaking. Sometimes, as we all should recognize, a cigar is only a cigar.

Invasion by Murray Leinster, Astounding Stories March 1933. Invasion by Murray Leinster is a short and very fast story. My kudos to Mr. Leinster for his remarkable writing

Invasion by Murray Leinster, Astounding Stories March 1933. How I love the science fiction stories written decades before my birth. In this story the 'science' projections were terribly flawed, but most are so flawed. I imagine in 50 years the science fiction stories of today will be ridiculously inaccurate as well. Leinster for his remarkable writing. It takes only about an hour to listen to or read the story but it is an hour of fun if you can get past the normal scientific gaffs of an 80+ year old story.

Imagine a world, a time, a history so entirely unlike ours that -- It's August 19, 2037. The United Nations is just fifty years old. Televisors are still black-and-white. The Nidics have just won the World Series in Prague. Com-Pub observatories are publishing elaborate figures on moving specks in space which they consider to be Martian spaceships on their way to Earth, but which United Nations astronomers cannot discover at all. Women are using gilt lipsticks this year. Heat-induction motors were still considered efficient prime movers.

Thorn Hard is a high-level flier for the Pacific Watch. Bathyletis is the most prominent of nationally advertised diseases, and was to be cured by RO-17, "The Foundation of Personal Charm." Somebody named Nirdlinger was President of the United Nations, and somebody else named Krassin was Commissar of Commissars for the Com-Pubs.

There was a barely audible whining sound from the west, as it drew closer the pitch changed, from a whine to a scream. From a scream it rose to a shriek. Something monstrous and red glittered in the dying light. It was huge. It was of no design ever seen on earth. Thorn Hard in his United Nations Watch plane 257-A had a front row seat. Half hidden in a spur of age-eroded rock as the craft slid by over head as it landed. The wind abruptly stopped, noise was muted, something was very wrong. The area around him and the monstrous craft was covered in a hemispherical dome, a Zone of Force! Where these the Martians the Com-Pubs ( Communist Republicans of the Baltic states ) had been warning about? Or was it really a deviously executed plot by the Com-Pubs them selves against the United Nations.

This is a fairly well written short story with a 1950's era feel about it. Heterodyned force fields , bad guy with Baltic Russian accent written in, it should be just a little more fun.

Typical formula science fiction from a simpler world. I guess you have to be a certain age to appreciate it, but I worked long and hard to get this old, and I like it. Yes, there's always a love story woven in, and implausible things are happening to everyone, but Leinster does a good job of moving the plot along and bringing it all together.

Probably too slow and dull for the video game generation. That's their loss.
