In addition to providing excellent structural images, the dense sampling of a 3-D survey makes it possible to map reservoir quality and the distribution of oil and gas. Topics covered in this book include basic structural interpretation and map-making; the use of 3-D visualisation methods; interpretation of seismic amplitudes, including their relation to rock and fluid properties; and the generation and use of AVO and acoustic impedance datasets.
This reasonably priced book is excellent for petroleum geoscientists wishing to learn 3-D seismic technology, a key tool for mapping subsurface reservoir quality and hydrocarbon distribution. Mathematics are minimal but sufficient. I strongly recommend it to all librarians, academics, students and professionals.

The authors provide a basic overview of seismic interpretation suitable for newcomers to the industry, or specialists in other fields who need an understanding of the siemic interpretation process. Bacon, Simm and Redshaw, 2003. Chris Liner's book and CD are not about seismic interpretation, but would make a good companion to any of the more geologically inclined books here. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge. List price USD 80. A nicely produced and comprehensive treatment with plenty of quantitative meat. Multi-author volumes seem a good idea for such a broad topic.
