3-D seismic data have become the key tool used in the petroleum industry to understand the subsurface.

3-D seismic data have become the key tool used in the petroleum industry to understand the subsurface. In addition to providing excellent structural images, the dense sampling of a 3-D survey makes it possible to map reservoir quality and the distribution of oil and gas. Topics covered in this book include basic structural interpretation and map-making; the use of 3-D visualisation methods; interpretation of seismic amplitudes, including their relation to rock and fluid properties; and the generation and use of AVO and acoustic impedance datasets.

This reasonably priced book is excellent for petroleum geoscientists wishing to learn 3-D seismic technology, a key tool for mapping subsurface reservoir quality and hydrocarbon distribution. Mathematics are minimal but sufficient. I strongly recommend it to all librarians, academics, students and professionals.

3-D Seismic Interpretation. Online ISBN: 9780511802416. The book is aimed at geologists and geophysicists who may be new to interpreting seismic data, and although titled 3-D Seismic Interpretation there is much to be learned from within this volume about interpretation of other forms of seismic data. For a comprehensive guide to getting the most out of seismic data has few competitors. Source: Geological Magazine. The authors provide a basic overview of seismic interpretation suitable for newcomers to the industry, or specialists in other fields who need an understanding of the siemic interpretation process. Bacon, Simm and Redshaw, 2003. Chris Liner's book and CD are not about seismic interpretation, but would make a good companion to any of the more geologically inclined books here. Cambridge, UK: Cambridge. List price USD 80. A nicely produced and comprehensive treatment with plenty of quantitative meat. Multi-author volumes seem a good idea for such a broad topic. Elements of 3D Seismology. The rest and the next. Out-of-print and old books, or ones that are less particularly about seismic interpretation

This book introduces geophysicists and geologists to the technique of interpreting 3-D seismic data. The topics it covers include basic structural interpretation and map-making; the use of 3-D visualization methods; interpretation of seismic amplitudes; the generation and use of AVO and acoustic impedance datasets; and time-lapse seismic mapping. Written by professional geophysicists with many years of working experience in the oil industry, the book will be indispensable for graduate students, researchers, and new entrants into the petroleum industry.

It informative if you are unfamiliar with many techniques in exploration seismology. I would say if your an Engineer, Geologist or just have an interest in the subject then this book would be great. However if you are familiar with information within exploration seismology and the petroleum industry then I would seek another book as a reference. Perhaps something from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists.

I bought this book because a colleague of mine recommended it and I love the content but the BOOK IS IN BLACK AND WHITE which makes understanding the pictures quite difficult. I asked to see my colleague's book and his is a color paperback. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND BUY THE COLOR VERSION. You cannot see the yellow circles and pointers at all on back and white pictures.

This is a photocopy of the original book. All the figures are black and white which makes everything on the book useless (the original book have all figures in color). I am not even sure if this is a legal copy.

This is a specialised subject and books on interpretation are few and far between and therefore soldier on well past their sell-by date

The is volume is well illustrated and covers the basic theory as well as applications in a very well organised fashion.

It is as non-platform specific as it can be so, anyone looking for specific workflows for Kingdom or Petrel will be disappointed

A worthwhile addition to any explorationists shelf

I bought this book, amongst others, in order to update myself on the essentials of 3-D interpretation whilst learning to use a 3D software package. I chose it as a reference text, before returning to work as a Geophysicist after a seven year break. It was just what I needed to refresh my memory! The book is easy to read, concise and well organized. It also has plenty of current and essential references on each topic which saved me a lot of research time.

This is very good book on 3D seismic interpretation written in a very simple language.
