Footing design for overturning now incorporates the use of the same uniform linear pressure concept used in ascertaining the bearing capacity. Increased emphasis is placed on geotextiles for retaining walls and soil nailing.

There are many books out there on foundation analysis and design. If you are interested in the state of the art, maybe you should try and buy the latest edition. If, like me, you are interested in fundamental principles and have a good view of what have been done in the past, you will enjoy this edition. I am a professional in this area, and have many other sources, but Bowles, F&D is always a good and quick reference for me, besides: you can never have too many books.

This out of print textbook has become one of my best references. I was actually surprised by how good of condition the book was in too - it really looked brand new.

We still use Bowles in our firm for designing many structures including retaining walls of different kinds, cellular cofferdams, buildings foundations, etc.

It includes many examples, easy to understand, and many charts and tables very useful for the designer.

Good book for practicing engineers. Goes into sufficient detail, but need to watch out for typos and errors of which there are several. Also makes repeated references to the enclosed DOS file which is now outdated.
