The purpose of this paper is to explain the relations between refined versions of index theory on a manifold X and the localization formulas of Duistermaat–Heckman on the loop space LX. Starting from Atiyah’s remark exhibiting such a connection for the Atiyah–Singer index formula for the Dirac operator acting on spinors, we ultimately explain the geometric counterpart on LX to η-invariants, tilde{eta} -forms and holomorphic torsion. In this note we compare two recent results about the distribution of eigenvalues for semiclassical pseudodifferential operators in two dimensions.

Leitmann, one of the founders of the study on dynamics of uncertain systems, and thus emphasising this recently rapidly developing discipline. The three major sets of topics presented deal successively with the general control theory of uncertain systems, with new theoretic methods in control, and with applications to control of robotic manipulators, aircraft control and flexible structures, all well integrated.
