Breakfast is the first meal of the day, eaten in the morning to break the fasting period of sleep. Breakfast traditions vary greatly around the world, from the minimal Café au lait of France to the hearty spreads to the substantial English Breakfast. A breakfast should provide enough energy to realize the daily activity until noon or lunch but it should also be light enough as to be easy to digest. The biscuits at The Flying Biscuit Café are some of the best around. I recently decided to give biscuits another try using the recipe from The Flying Biscuit Cafe Cookbook: Breakfast and Beyond.

The biscuits at The Flying Biscuit Café are some of the best around. The Flying Biscuit Café is a small chain of restaurants started in Atlanta that is known for their biscuits. They are extra rich biscuits made from butter, heavy cream, and half and half with sugar sprinkled on top. And while they didn’t rise as much as I would have liked them to, they were tender and delicious. I’m always super careful not to overwork the dough so I don’t think that is the problem

Those of us who've eaten at Atlanta's Flying Biscuit Cafe, but do not live locally, are eternally grateful for the existence of this little cookbook to see us through until the next time we can visit! Packed full of amazing recipes, with an emphasis on breakfast foods (usually my least favorite meal of the day) you're sure to find your own special nirvana somewhere within these pages.

Try Pudge - I make it for any Holiday meal and there are never any leftovers! The Apple Crisp is yummy, and you can actually make the topping work for just about any fruit crisp you can dream up! As a special treat for a memorable morning, whip up a batch of Fresh Berry Compote (you can make it by the vat and freeze it easily) and serve it on top of the Buttermilk French Toast. Wow!

This is one of the few cook books in my collection that has a permanent spot near the front of the shelf and sports a collection of post-it notes. It is one of my all time favorites and I'm constantly on the prowl for additional copies to present as gifts.

There is a second book published under the same name by April Moon that just doesn't deliver the same experience. Missing a lot of the "key" restaurant recipes it was a disappointment and can not be considered a substitute for this, the original edition.

A coworker recommended this cookbook to me, she knew I enjoy cooking and she uses her well worn copy often. This book is out of print now so I bought a used copy , but it was in good shape and has a lot of life left in it. The recipes are good- I've only made a few so far but overall this collection seems good. For the price, I think it's a good addition to my cookbook collection.

I am a cookbook junkie and I have tons of cookbooks. This one is the best one I own. Every single recipe comes out delicious. The recipes are mostly "comfort food with a twist" and they are excellent. The cookbook is quirky and full of personality and so are the recipes... I haven't made a single one from this book yet that hasn't been just outstanding. [something I don't think I can say about any other cookbook I own....]

Whether you go to the Flying Biscuit Cafe regularly or whether you've never been, you will LOVE these recipes! There isn't a loser in the bunch and they are all mouth watering and interesting.

Marvellous, healthy recipes from the Southern tradition? Impossible? Not at all. Great soups and salads, wonderful biscuits - of course - and magnificent pancakes - but the turkey sausage is best of all. I ate here with great joy in Atlanta, served by its lovely staff, and I have only one quibble wiht the book, writing as an Englishwoman; scones are not sweeter than biscuits! You can make savoury scones, even cheese scones (flavoured wiht sage, or dead plain ones with no sugar (which are actuzally the norm.) But none of this matters. Buy this book and celebrate life.

It contains some great recipes.

Came across this cookbook while searching for one with a good biscuit recipe for Southern climates. Saw the title and remembered seeing something about this restaurant on either Food Network or the Travel Channel and it peaked my interest enough to want to purchase. The recipes are easy to follow and the results are wonderful, definitely a worthwhile addition to my cookbook collection.
