Jeremiah Burroughs was a 17th century English pastor persecuted for his non-conformity. He delivered a series of sermons on Isaiah 66:2 and 2 Kings 22:19 entitled, "The Heart Trembling at the Word of God Evidences a Blessed Frame of Spirit". This book is the collection of those sermons. As the author says, "True fear and trembling at the Word is that which will settle the heart and strengthen the heart against all other fears.
Jeremiah Burroughs (sometimes Burroughes; 1599 – London, November 13, 1646) was an English Congregationalist and a well-known Puritan preacher. Burroughs studied at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and was graduated . in 1624, but left the university because of non-conformity. He was assistant to Edmund Calamy at Bury St. Edmunds, and in 1631 became rector of Tivetshall, Norfolk

Today, many Christians are turning back to the puritans to, walk in the old paths, of God’s word, and to continue to proclaim old truth that glorifies Jesus Christ. There is no new theology.
A book that causes us to reevaluate something at the core of our identity as a child of God is a gem indeed. Gospel Fear by Jeremiah Burroughs is one such book, and one that I would wholeheartedly commend to the newborn infant Christian and the 80-year saint alike. And like a stream flowing through the pasture, it is a book that can be revisited again and again for refreshment of the soul and encouragement in our walk with the Savior. Perhaps this is ultimately the best indicator of a good book – one can read it every year and it never gets old. I hope by trudging through my frail argument.
