I've led congregations through the book with very good results. The churches that said, "yes," experienced a growth in spiritual depth and numbers. The church that said, "no," and fought change every step of the way is dying, complaining and blaming others as it dwindles in numbers, vitality and relevance.
Get off the sideline and jump in. The water is fine. The book is the most painless way to teach and learn evangelism. It is a book containing and teaching both spirituality and statistics. You face the hard truth of the statistics of dwindling attendance and rising median age with others, talk about them and learn how to move on in a biblical and practical way.
I don't hesitate to give all the books in the series 5 stars. What are you waiting for?

I was unsure about using this book for our small SS class (average 6 attendees). MGR is a DOC minister and since our church is DOC we decided to keep it in-house. I'm glad I chose this book. It's not a program (no knocking on doors), it's not a 'five fingers of faith' approach. If you are looking for that, look elsewhere. What it is is a way to improve/build/rekindle your relationship with God through prayer. Since evangelism starts with you, it's essential that your relationship with Him be in good standing. The prayer journal in the back is very useful, and the book is easy to read. We are going into our fourth week using the book and our SS class has tripled in size. People who haven't attended SS in years are coming. It has been a very positive experience for our church.

This guided course book unexpectedly shot to the top of the charts in sales, filling a long-felt need in many for a well-developed way for spiritual deepening and community building in congregations. Our group found the activities presented and discussions fostered to be enriching and challenging. Attendance stayed high throughout the course and friends from other congregations began attending as well.

We are using this book as a guide for small groups within our church. It is a wonderful guide, and we are all really enjoying it. We read a chapter a week, then have a lively discussion, bringing up many of the points mentioned in the book. It has also inspired us to reach outside ourselves and do additional works in and out of church.

Mainline Christians who want to bless God's world and the lives of pre-Christians, yet are unclear about why and how they should share the Gospel, will welcome this 40-day small-group exercise in prayer, scripture study, faith-sharing, and factual information about how they can become more inviting and enthusiastic Christians. Rev. Reese's style is devoted, lucid, witty, useful, and interesting. In 29 years of ordained ministry, I have not found as helpful a guide as this for mainline churches who want to launch a journey of congregational transformation.

I am a pastor and a group from my church is using this on their own. They are telling me that it has meant a lot to them. I am now using it myself and totally agree. It is more than a devotion book. There are pray exercises on each day that add to your experience of prayer and are remarkably simple.

Overall the mook was just what I wanted for a Lenten course of study. Some messy notes in the margins but of no consequence. Price was right too. Thanks for the service. Ken G
I really enjoyed the readings and the material was very thought provoking. The prayer suggestions have done much to enrich my walk and relationship with Christ, the members in our group and has done much to enhance my prayer life. I am learning to pray for things that others need and to be bolder in my faith with those that I meet. I will continue to pray that Christ will guide and direct me in my walk with Him and teach me how to better witness to all.
