In Viral Jesus, Ross Rohde uses his experiences as a missionary and itinerant "apostle" to take a look back at the roots of our faith and the explosive growth of the early Church. He paints a picture of what it was like when the "Way" was so contagious that it spread across the entire Roman world in just a couple of centuries. But something must have gone wrong.

Ross Rohde believes that this excitement and passion can be recaptured

By returning to what we once ha. Ross Rohde believes that this excitement and passion can be recaptured. In Viral Jesus he uses examples from the Bible and today to explore how we can return to our roots and once again enjoy the excitement, simple spirituality, and explosive growth of early Christianity.

The Viral Jesus book seeks to answer these questions. It seeks to discover not only how we stopped being a viral movement of the Spirit, but also seeks to find the spiritual secrets of viral growth. To do that it will analyze our history, our theology, past movements of the Spirit and the powerful, current sustained viral movement of the gospel that is the Chinese House Church movement. And, we'll also tell real life stories; stories of normal Christians bearing fruit in the most unlikely of places, Spain, San Francisco, Berkeley, the affluent neighborhoods of the Silicon Valley

Gospel Revolution: Recovering the Power of Christianity - Member Book. Greear shows how moralism and legalism have often eclipsed the gospel, even in conservative Christianity. Gospel cuts through the superficiality of religion and reacquaints readers with the revolutionary truth of God’s gracious acceptance of sinners in Christ. The gospel is the power of God, and the only true source of joy, freedom, radical generosity, and audacious faith. The gospel produces in believers what religion never could: a heart that desires God.

Book Overview We can recover what we once enjoyed. In the early centuries Christianity was an explosive, viral movement that spread by word of mouth. Persecution could not stop it. In fact, it often helped to spread it. But today, the gospel is no longer spreading like wildfire throughout the Western world.

The Gospel of Christ must be preached in all tongues throughout the world in an Orthodox context. Only then will the end come. This is an awesome thing to contemplate. Of course, we should read Orthodox books by some contemporary authors also, because they distill the teaching of the Fathers and bring it to bear on modern concerns. But to get a well-rounded view of the Patristic teaching, and to know which modern authors reflect more of the Patristic mind, we should not neglect to go to the writings of the Fathers directly.

Jesus is Lord. - the ultimate truth
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. - an absolute
As Ross Rohde matured in his Christian experience, he came to a deeper understanding of what it means to state that Jesus is Lord and what those three words should mean in the life of a believer.
The early Christians understood the principal and operated upon it; accepting that with Jesus in charge, signs, wonders, miracles, and spiritual gifts would naturally occur. In Viral Jesus, Rohde contrasts the first century church with its biblical worldview with the twenty-first century church with its Western worldview. Spontaneity vs. structure, Holy Spirit led activity vs. men- centered activity, viral spreading of the gospel vs. limited advancement of the gospel, i.e. harvesting vs. gleaning.
Viral Jesus is highly readable. The points are well stated, the examples excellent, and the conclusions succinct and encompassing. Readers who agree with Mr. Rohde will want to pray with him that Christianity (not Christendom) will become contagious again and "go viral" in our day.
Since Jesus is the same yesterday (1st century) and today (21st century), signs, wonders, miracles, and the exercise of gifts of the Spirit should be absolutely in evidence in our churches today be they organic or otherwise. Viral Jesus provides explanations and direction.

A few years back I attended a simple church conference in Dallas. I was new to the idea of house church and I didn't know what to expect that weekend. It was clear pretty quickly that I was in the midst of a bunch of people that loved Jesus. Throughout the whole conference there was one individual that caught my attention. I noticed him talking to a lot of folks from all corners of the country. I thought perhaps he was going to be a speaker but as it turned out he was just attending the conference the same as myself. As he spoke with people he seemed to sincerely care. He laughed, smiled and it appeared he really listened well. I told my wife "this guy seems to ooze Jesus." Of particular interest to me was the way he interacted with the wait staff. There was one waiter that I saw talking with him several times. I was impressed that he took the same sincere interest in the waiter as he did the conference attendees. On the last day of the conference he made a quick announcement asking for prayer. He was headed over to the waiter's house. The waiter had decided to follow Jesus and was gathering his friends and family so Ross Rohde, this gentleman I had been watching, could come and share with his loved ones. My mouth dropped open... I was stunned. Over the last several years I've bumped into Ross at conferences and currently follow his blog. He is still oozing Jesus. I tell this story to make a basic point that "Viral Jesus" is written by an individual that is living out the principles of this book. I've seen first hand the true infectious nature of a life "infected" with Jesus. Viral Jesus has challenged me to truly make Jesus Lord. Having read this book I'm learning to listen better and abide in Christ. Thanks Ross Rohde for being willing to serve. Thanks for helping me understand how we in Christendom got to where we're at and how to get back to Christ. The book has been a great blessing!

Come on Amazon, add some stars! Five doesn't do this book justice. For the sake of disclosure, I just ordered the book (so haven't read it), but have to give it 9 of of 5 stars from the parts I have read on <...> alone. Wow. I am driven to prayer. Humbled. And realize that God has been speaking strongly to the author and, I hope, to the church at large as well through him.

If you love Jesus, you must order and READ this book.

I will update this review after getting/reading the book, but I read one or two books a week and love Jesus, the church, Neil Cole, John Zens, Frank Viola, Keith Green, N.T. Wright, Bonhoeffer, missions, evangelism, discipleship,...just to give you a reference.

About a year ago I started on a journey toward organic, simple church. Ross Rohde's blog was instrumental in shaping that journey so I eagerly awaited Viral Jesus. At first I thought that this book would lead me further in my journey toward organic church, which it did, but more accurately it has shaped my journey in walking with Jesus again. I just finished reading Viral Jesus and it has renewed within me a desire to walk with Jesus, acknowledging His presence, asking Him to guide our new gathering, expecting him to show up, and being open to the supernatural ways that He works.

This book does a better job than any other I've come across at tracing the triumphs and (all too frequent) missteps of church history, and does so in a way that has me praying hopefully that there might be hope for a new (or re-discovered) way forward. The writing is humble but justifiably critical when necessary, and the tone is hopeful rather than cynical. Perhaps this is because the author has real, life-earned stories to share that many pew-sitting Christians would believe impossible in this day and age - all while singing about a God who can do anything.

If you are at all interested in house/organic church, or just feel a burden for the bride of Christ but out of place in church, PICK THIS BOOK UP!

Lastly, to those who work or are influential in church, I highly recommend you give this book a read as well. Whether right or wrong, this book articulates a way forward that will resonate strongly with many disenfranchised or disillusioned Christians, especially young people. If you desire to better understand the disconnect between many younger (read: postmodern) Christians and much of the church and its current (more modernist) leadership structures, Viral Jesus is a fantastic place to start.
