Pope Benedict XVI (Latin: Benedictus XVI; Italian: Benedetto XVI; German: Benedikt XVI; born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger; German pronunciation: ; 16 April 1927) is a retired prelate of the Catholic Church who served as head of the Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 2005 until his resignation in 2013.

During his papacy and before, Pope Benedict XVI has given us the fruits of his brilliant mind, loving heart, and devoted service to God. I am glad that I have made a gift of BENEDICTUS: DAY BY DAY WITH POPE BENEDICT XVI to my dear brother who himself is a near genius brilliant man. I hope to make gifts of this volume to others in my life who seem very much committed to the Faith.

Peter John Cameron, . A hardcover volume with an elegant ribbon marker in papal colors, Benedictus is the perfect gift for any Catholic seeking to know our Holy Father or to deepen their spiritual life.

Pope Benedict's official resignation statement offered his waning physical and mental powers as the explanation, but it's long been suspected there was more to it. And my inquiries have confirmed that. Over a period of time dating back to final years of Pope John Paul II, the heart of the HQ of the Roman Church had become dominated by infighting cliques. This was what the Pope's butler, Paolo Gabriele said he wanted to expose by photocopying and leaking all those documents. For years, deals were struck in which the Vatican paid several times the market rate.

Same Every Day Low Prices. The last little resistance to taking the big step to begin RCIA fell when I listened to Pope Bendict's (then Cardinal Ratzinger) homily after the death of Pope John Paul. These daily and prayerful reflections serve as touchstones for me as I seek to grow deeper in my faith.

Faith requires understanding and understanding requires Knowledge. With greater understanding Faith grows. This ecosystem is what this book is all about. It attempts to answer in depth, and with concrete examples, the church's teaching. If you are struggling and thirsty for knowledge this book is great.

The book is a series of short meditations for each day of the year. Reading one per day is easy to do and it makes you feel like you accomplished something. Contrast this to a book you just can't put down or one that drones on, which in both cases may be inconvenient to read.

Sometimes I need to read a page 2 or more times to get that ah-ha moment, but when I do it is worth it. There are many such moments in this book and will spark you to learn more!

I love this book by Pope Benedict XVI. I wanted to go through the entire year before I wrote my review and have to say it has been a great companion. Yes, there are some days when I have had to slow down and think but isn't that the point of reflection? I found so much of what is inside these covers so relevant today to our culture and to the world at large. I can say that this devotional has increased my faith, moved me forward on my journey, and brought me much pleasure as well as thought. I highly recommend this book.

The book itself is gorgeous. The paper is lovely to the touch, the daily images thoughtful and relevant. It's been a delight to use each day. I also appreciated the forward pages comprising the introduction. I have enjoyed my daily time with the Holy Father so much that I am going to go through it again in 2013.

I hope to make gifts of this volume to others in my life who seem very much committed to the Faith. The words of Our Holy Father are rich with wisdom; but these are not just his own personal brand of holiness and thought; these are the result of his entire life of research in matters of faith and morals, his genuine understanding of holiness and what it is that makes the saints truly friends of God. We are blessed at this epoch in history to have the possibility of reading every single day the words of this great and holy man, not only in this wonderful book, BENEDICTUS, but in all of Pope Benedict XVI's marvelous books and articles. May our minds and hearts open to receive the words of wisdom and the Godliness of this great pope. May we find our own spirituality grow in accord with the blessings he affords us with insight and gentleness. I believe that Pope Benedict XVI will be recognized in history as one of the greatest minds of our time; and in the humility of his life, following as he does, the footsteps of so charismatic a pope as Blessed John Paul II --- in this great humility, may he help us to become one with Christ, meek and humble of heart. In these days of war, hatred, prejudice and cruelty, the words of Pope Benedict XVI ring out calling the world back to God.

I am so sorry this book seems to be discontinued as it is one of the most beautiful books I have ever seen!

We all should have written glowing reviews but, like me, others were probably so speechless with the beauty and the content of Benedictus: Day by Day we lingered too long. I do remember thinking it was underpriced for the art, and art, alone! I remember "writing" somewhere that I would have paid 4 times the price to own this book.

I have gifted Benedictus to others, who were not Catholic, who cherish this gift.

Thanks, Amazon, for having this available when Benedictus first came out. You have great Catholic books! I appreciate that and I also appreciate your Prime service!

Offered at $5 this book hardly looked used or worn at all. It is a wonderful book of meditations drawing from scores of Benedict's writings, and suitable for scholars and lay folks alike. Each of the 365 meditations can be read in about 2 minutes, and each contains philosophical/theological depth yet with profound simplicity. Even skeptics and unbelievers might find this a useful summary of what Christians actually believe, as well as a very different impression of Benedict from the caricatures of the press.
Wat!?
I've read some of Pope Benedict's works and really enjoyed how he develops his thoughts. This book isn't what I was hoping for. Maybe something is getting lost in the translation but for me it wasn't a good book to use for lectio as I had hoped. He makes some good points and there are some interesting facts and thoughts conveyed but if you are hoping to use it for any type of meditation there are better books available. Again, it may simply not appeal to me because of whoever translated his words.
I expected an over-sized book, but this is a very nice sized book. It's beautiful too: color throughout and paper that will hold up over time. I ordered it because I had been listening to the reflections on a podcast every day. I wanted to be able to get the text of ones I liked. I was pleased to see that the texts in the book are longer. I'm happy with this purchase.
