A rhyming book - my children loved it - we learned new words to describe old feelings, too.

My not-quite-two-year-old biracial son loves this book. Lately we've been reading it every day, and the illustrations are complex and lush enough that he finds something new to babble/comment about every time we crack the cover. I love the continuity of the birds, dog, cats, and flower/fruits throughout the book, and the subtle and yet important message of the life cycle of the year and the seasons plays out in the birth of the baby for the family featured in the book. (There are subplots of baby animals being born as well, and recently my son has caught on to the fact that there are baby kitties and baby swans in addition to the human baby. We have a lot of yelling about babies as a result, but that just adds to the charm of reading this book to him.). This book has many layers of meaning and impact for a new reader and his or her adult reading partner. As a parent who has had it with Curious George and the stupid Hungry Catapillar and the dang moon that must be goodnighted a hundred times in a row and who believes reading has value for many reasons, Snowy Flowy Blowy is a welcome addition to our library, and I believe we'll continue to enjoy it for many years to come.

My two kids (2 and 6) love this book about one family that lives in the country going through the seasons. Not only does the book show the changes of the earth during the seasons, but also follows the progress of the mother's pregnancy and ends with the new family member. The pictures are full of great, detailed picutres of wildlife - sure to please your children!

As a youth services librarian at a large metropolitan library, I am always looking for large format, simple, appealing books for toddlers and their families. While this book is certainly lovely, I will not be recommending it or using in any of my storytelling programs because the people illustrated in this book are all white, and it does not reflect my community or many other communities today. It is truly surprising how many new children's books only feature white people. As one of those white people, I am offended and disappointed in publishers and illustrators who perpetuate this bias.
