But Nancy Farmer has an excellent reason for adding what seemed like the token cute character at first and a seemingly unimportant event sets off a series of events in motion that will change Jack’s future forever. With amazing characters, a fast-paced plot and extraordinary world-building, The Land of the Silver Apples is a fitting sequel to The Sea of Trolls. readers will lose themselves in Nancy Farmer’s fascinating world where the old religion collides with the new rising religion, Christianity. I can’t think of an author who puts a better spin on old fantasy clichés than Nancy Farmer while still staying true to the time period.

The first books focuses of trolls and dragons, which are well known mystical creatures. The book is in perfect condition. I have not read it yet, but love Nancy Farmer's House of the Scorpion so much I wanted to purchase this for our high school. 2 people found this helpful.

Nancy Farmer is everything I want to become as a fiction writer. Engaging, heartfelt and action packed without being too violent. Honesty in fiction, this is historically well researched (along with the legends and myths spun into their real world,) every chapter opens with a jump, weaves in a new piece of interest, supports the theme of the book and leaves you with a question at the end of the chapter, making you read on. And on. And on.

Loved every minute.

A beautiful tale, written in evocative prose that is so rare to find these days. I bought several other novels by Nancy Farmer because I enjoyed this trilogy so much. Well developed characters embedded in a world that truly comes alive with Ms. Farmer's excellent writing. Very high quality, and hope to see more from her in the future!

Really enjoyed the beginning but felt like i had to trudge through the chapters covering the Land Silver Apples (Elfheim). Otherwise i enjoyed it, and am looking forward to the next book. Nancy Farmer is my favorite author from my teens so catching up again on her stories after over a decade of not reading any is quite the pleasure.

I enjoyed this book more than the first! Jack and his friends embark on a new journey to find out what happened to his sister Lucy all those years ago. They arrive in the Land of the Silver Apples, where you do not age and time does not move. Ms. Farmer has added new characters and I fell in love with the hobgoblins and Pega! This one had me laughing a few times wishing I could join them in their crazy adventures!

I think I first read these books in middle school, and I just decided to revisit them at the end of last year. It's a really interesting, well researched series. I'm glad I got back into them; Nancy Farmer is a phenomenal writer.
Not only is the story itself engaging and artfully crafted, but Gerard Doyle's voice is perfection! I have actually searched for books to listen to that he has narrated. The first and second books in this trilogy are incredible, enchanting, even. The third, for me, was a little bit of a letdown. It was equally thrilling right up to the last chapter, but the ending was disappointing. My sister listened to the series as well and she felt the same way, but don't let that deter you from listening to them anyway. Even with the unsatisfying ending it remains one of the best series that I have read.
