Ahmed's secret keeps the reader engaged and creates a sense of curiosity as they progress through the book waiting to find out the secret. When the secret is disclosed, it was captivating to see the value Ahmed placed on education and how pleased he was of himself. This highlights the different experiences children encounter in the middle-east compared to western culture. As a teacher, I could use this book to teach about predicitons by using "The Day of Ahmed's Secret" is a great story about a little boy named Ahmed. He lives in the city of Cairo and works as a butagaz boy. He takes the reader on a journey throughout his day, but he has a little secret to tell.

Booktopia has Day of Ahmed's Secret by Florence H Parry. The message is that, despite our differences, children are children. The Day Of Ahmed’s Secret Book. Around the World ~ One Picture Book at a Time - Simple Homeschool. Skillfully, the authors. Ahmed's secret relates to a simple childhood milestone. The setting is Egypt.

All day, as he does a man's work-delivering bottles of water to customers in his native Cairo-Ahmed (pictured as nine or ten) treasures a secret. Lewin's warm, expansive double-spread watercolors capture both subtleties of character and the city's rich diversity. As he and his donkey make their way through the noisy, crowded streets, getting food from a handdrawn cart, he remembers his father's advice (""I close my eyes and have my quiet time. 'If there are no quiet spaces in your head, it fills with noise,' he has told m. .'Hurry to grow strong. but do not hurry to grow old'""). A handsome, affectionate book.

I gave this a 5 star rating for many reasons: the book arrived much earlier than expected and in perfect condition! I bought a few copies to give as gifts for friends in teaching/childcare professions and for friends who are having kids of their own. I recently went to Egypt to travel around, and after being there, and reading this book, I can't imagine a book having better illustrations. The font is classic black color and great size (easy to read and not distracting for kids at all). I can't write enough about the illustrations- they are so incredibly lifelike, that you really feel like you're in the streets of Cairo while reading it. I would recommend this book for gift giving, or for kids 4th grade and under. I would also recommend this for anyone who wants to spark a curiosity and appreciation for cultures in children at an early age.

I agree with all the reviews here, and I want to add that even if you ignored the multicultural exposure this book provides it is a mesmerizing and fun read. My three year old girl loves it, along with my five year old girl. The pictures are beautiful, the words enchanting, the ideas positive(everyone needs a quiet moment to think during their day). The gentle exposure to the concept that there are kids out there who need to work (it's very uplifting, my kids are very sensitive and it doesn't bother them because it's all provided in context).

This book is well written and illustrated and will always be a constant reminder of my days living and working in Egypt. I have gladly shared this book with many of my friends and colleagues and will continue to do so. Proud to add it to my collection of memorabilia of my life in Egypt.

This is a beautiful, quiet book with gorgeous watercolor illustrations. I love this book, but unfortunately my preschoolers had no interest in it. Oh well, I will treasure it!

This is a very sweet book. I got it because I wanted my book-loving, half-Arab children to read good quality books with Arab characters, and I wasn't disappointed.
