John Wallace's formal training was not in illustration, but rather theology, which he received at Cambridge University. However, he always loved drawing, and one of his early jobs was as a newspaper cartoonist. In his children's books illustrations, John is particularly inspired by what he calls "the gooniness" of young school children. John and his family divide their time between Brighton, England, and Long Island, New York.

The cover might make you expect a book about the cool history and unique experiences you will discover at Niagara Falls. But after some history of how the falls were created (COOL!) there is a section about a few of the dangerous stunts performed - ending with a death and on the next pages someone being arrested for attempting a stunt. For a very skimpy book about one of the "Wonders of America" this was a downer and inappropriate for an audience of early readers.

Just visited Niagara falls and purchased this for my four year old daughter. It was not fun or very interesting.

We took this with us on a trip to Niagara Falls. It was quite easy for my 1st grade son. He's an average reader.
