Bentley Boyd drew Chester the Crab for the Daily Press of Newport News, Virginia, from 1995 to 2008. He has also drawn elephants and donkeys as a political cartoonist, and long ago in his own classes he drew his teachers (none of them as elephants or donkeys or crabs). Bentley studied History and Literature at Harvard University and drew for the college newspaper in the distant 80s. He would draw Batman but finds drawing skyscrapers boring. Bentley lives in Williamsburg, Virginia, with his two sons - who love Star Wars even more than he does.

The first permanent British settlement in North America was also the first capital of Virginia. But Jamestown was a killer - the swampy land carried diseases that killed thousands of colonists. One winter there was cannibalism! Trace the struggle that changed the Old Dominion from a deathtrap into the most powerful of the 13 colonies and home of many of America's Founding Fathers. This funny, colorful graphic novel will excite reluctant readers, prepare students for standardized tests in history and help homeschooling parents!

These books are a hit with the kids and teachers in the after school program where I work. I ended up ordering a class set directly from the company. The owner/writer actually answered the phone and he was so friendly! I will be ordering other titles in the future.

These comics are enjoyed by our entire family. Our 10 year old son can't seem to put them down as the illustrations and content are clever and entertaining. We love how Bently Boyd brings history to life in a fun, creative and easy reading style. After my son is finished reading he can't wait to share what he read with the entire family. We have acquired the entire set of Chester Comix with Content Series and love them all. These make a GREAT gift for anyone of any age or even for teachers as they are an awesome learning tool. A gift that keeps giving. This is a definate must have for the entire family. ENJOY!

The 4th grade students in Virginia study their state's geography and history. This Chester Comix series is an excellent, content tailored resource which correlates to the exact material on which the students are tested. With so many students and parents in our area preparing for SOLs this is the "go to" resource on my library's shelf. The pictures make it easy to see and understand the geographical features and the story arc is simple to understand. As a public librarian, I only wish these were published in a more robust hardback binding so they would stand up to all the wear and tear of a public library. I highly recommend this for school libraries, public libraries and home libraries.
