This book is kind of scary and kind of fun. Dawn and Claudia (two of the baby-sitters of the baby-sitters club) go on a sailing race with Four of their sitting charges and end up shipwrecked!
It`s up to them to survive and get rescued. You will enjoy this book a lot even though it is quite scary. Just like the other super specials, it is Eight chapters longer than the regular series. The book is an excellent adventure for kids ages Eight-Twelve.

Good one, but I have to criticize something: Come on!! It took THAT long for adults and local officials to find young children on an island not that far away? Extremely unbelievable, or did I miss something here. Also, I didn't realize how mean Aunt Cecelia is. I just began super special #5, in which Kristy, while waiting for winning lottery numbers, says she doesn't care about world peace (on the news), let's just get to the winning numbers! Strangely, this book came out in December of 1990, about a month before Dessert Storm. With all that's being edited and revamped in our world today, how did someone not catch THIS in the past few decades? Stacey's father deserved every bitter word that Stacey threw his way. What a baby and what a jerk!!! Her friends could have been drowned at sea and he's worried about his "time with her". Also, can someone please explain the cover picture to me? The strandees were Dawn, Claudia, Hayley, Becca, Jamie, and Jeff. Why are Mallory and the others waving?
This one didn't interest me at first because I didn't care about sailing and don't really care for the ocean, and I thought it was peculiar that suddenly there's all this stuff about sailing when no one in the club and no one that they babysit for has ever talked about it before, so you got the idea that Stoneybrook was not anywhere near water. But I guess it is. That's what happens when you rearrange stuff in order to have a plot. Anyway.

A racing plot crops up between Claudia and Dawn, and they're not satisfied when their first race ends in a tie, so they have this freakishly poor idea of getting "crews" amongst their sitting charges as well as some other people they know, and of course a storm hits and they get stranded and have to work together to survive. I remember the survival part a LOT better than the earlier petty sailboat racing part because that's where it got more exciting.

I kinda liked seeing the sitters and the kids have to actually figure out how to survive until they're rescued, and I liked the reactions their friends and family back home had to their being missing. A lot of realistic reactions like guilt and anger and desperate determination cropped up back at home, and among the "castaways," various strengths became survival skills. They ration and collect rainwater--I remember the rainwater thing really well because they had to collect it with a tarp or something--and they use sort of various camping skills to survive and various coping skills to keep it together. Of course you know they're going to get rescued because of what this series is, but watching how THEY acted while not being so sure was pretty cool.
