This is a spiffy little book that overviews medieval castles.

* The ranks, titles and functions of the various people that owned and ran castles back in feudal times.
* The different types of castles, with full color illustrations of their layouts, and individual strengths & weaknesses.
* There's a map listing actual castles in the U.K., Europe, and Japan.
* There's even a guide on how to read (and design) Heraldy Blazes and Coats of Arms.
* The book is also 'internet linked' to a website in which you can enter page numbers of the book, and get a list of jumplinks to related websites.

Even though it's target audience is young adults, and even though it weighs in at a mere 92 pages, it's STILL a great little book.

It's a MUST HAVE book for the following readers:

* Hardcore fans of games like WARHAMMER, AD&D, and other medieval-based role playing games (RPGs) and combat simulations.
* Aspiring writers who'd like to read up on basic medieval castle dynamics before writing about such things.

Both categories apply to yours truly.

My 14-year-old son went to the library for books on castles to use the information for building on MineCraft. He narrowed the selection to five and Usborne is by far the favorite. He told me that there is so much good information that he now has to buy the book. So, here I am! Although I would prefer to have a hardback copy, a paperback may have to do since the hardbound seems to be out-of-print. Enjoy!
