The early Three Investigator books were written by Robert Arthur.
The early Three Investigator books were written by Robert Arthur. Arthur had a flair for pacing and excitement, with frequent cliffhanger chapter endings. His descriptions of the three boys and their adventures invariably appeals to younger boys, perhaps in the age range of 7 or 8 to 14 or 15 years old, though I am well past that age and I still enjoy these stories. In this adventure, the Three Investigators venture far away from Rocky Beach, California-3000 miles away to a haunted island on the east coast where Pete's father is working to restore an old thrill park for a movie he is working on.
I wonder whether freeways were widely known to our youth when this book was written in 1969? What do you think about this non-supernatural subject of freeways?

ALFRED HITCHCOCK Introduction I SEEM TO BE constantly introducing something
ALFRED HITCHCOCK Introduction I SEEM TO BE constantly introducing something. For years I've been introducing my television programmes. And I've introduced books of mystery, ghost and suspense stories for my fans to shiver with. Now I find myself introducing a trio of lads who call themselves The Three Investigators, and ride round in a gold-plated Rolls-Royce, solving mysteries, riddles, enigmas and conundrums of all kinds. The three boys who call themselves The Three Investigators are Bob Andrews, Pete Crenshaw, and Jupiter Jones, all of whom live in Rocky Beach, a small city on be shore of the Pacific Ocean some miles from Hollywood.
