'The Hatchet' is a fabulous magazine that centers on Lizzie Borden, who in 1892 Fall River, Massachusetts was accused of murdering her step-mother and father with an axe. The case is a virtual locked door mystery. She had to have done it, yet she couldn't have done it ... or did she? Books have been written in the past about the case, and many writers simply copied other writers' research. 'The Hatchet' writers go to the core material - the trial transcript, old newspapers, letters, etc. - to reveal much new information never before brought to light. The magazine also features things Victorian.

It is a beautiful publication, extremely well designed and the covers are of heavy paper, not the usual thin paper covers. There is an excellent website that offers a wealth of free information on the Lizzie Borden case at [...]. Here you can also subscribe to 'The Hatchet' and download it as soon as it is off the press. A free magazine, 'The Literary Hatchet' that contains all fiction, is available from the site as well. The website features the most popular forum on Lizzie Borden, photos, a link to Mondo Lizzie, the blog of the publisher, and original documents from the case.

Whether you know a lot, a little, or nothing about Lizzie Borden, the magazine entertains and enlightens through articles written by some of the best writers on the subject, as well as humor and poetry. A free copy is available on the website.

In 1893 Lizzie was found not guilty of murdering her father, her stepmother, and both her father and stepmother.
There have been many moot courts that reconsidered this trial; all reached the 'not guilty' verdict.
So why do some people still say she was guilty? It is the triumph of emotion and prejudice over facts and reason.

But there are worse ways to spend your time.
