Thoreau and the Art of Life: Precepts and Principles ePub download

As stated earlier, the visuals in each section are paired very well with the writings and give the poems and journal excerpts of Thoreau more life. Both visually stunning and well compiled, this book has taken many different themes of writer Henry David Thoreau's works and organized them.

MacIver's paintings are simply wonderful! Thoreau sometimes has good points to make. That all who received THOREAU AND THE ART OF LIFE: PRECEPTS AND PRINCIPLES from me for Christmas have said it is one they treasure is not surprising. Every page is enhanced by MacIver's watercolors, all as stunning as those on the cover. Furthermore, because the excerpts from Thoreau's works are arranged thematically, it easy to revisit the author and relish his insights when one has a minute or twenty to spare.

Thoreau's work, largely ignored during his lifetime, continues to grow in influence and to inspire and confound readers. Thoreau and the Art of Life takes a fresh perspective on Thoreau's work, most of which dealt in some way with living what he described as the ?good life?: simplicity, living close to nature, solitude, leisure and reflection. This book examines the principles Thoreau espoused and successfully lived, as well as the principles he tried to live but was unable to or that otherwise proved impractical, and what can be learned from his struggles and contradictions.

It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful, but it is more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look, which morally we can do.

Thoreau's work, largely ignored during his lifetime, continues to grow in influence and to inspire and confound readers. ? Thoreau and the Art of Life takes a fresh perspective on Thoreau's work, most of which dealt in some way with living what he described as the ?good life?: simplicity, living close to nature, solitude, leisure and reflection. This book examines the principles Thoreau espoused and successfully lived, as well as the principles he tried to live but was unable to or that otherwise proved impractical, and what can be learned from his struggles and contradictions. In his numerous books and 14-volume journal, Thoreau explored the subject of living a good life, a conscious life, a harmonious life from diverse, sometimes contrary, perspectives. Thoreau and the Art of Life extracts from his works hundreds of thought-provoking quotes about his life, the life that Thoreau lived, tried to live, or thought he should live.

A beautiful book you can read in a day, but with quotes that can stay with you forever. He's deep, poetic, thoughtful, intellectual...its a shame he didn't get the recognition he deserved when he was alive. Sometimes I don't understand what he means, but I like to ponder it anyways. :)

Aside from his profound writing, his artwork is beautiful. The quality is so on point that it looks like they took the paper and stuck in the book. I love the HD detail of his art and the vibrant colors.

This is the kind of book that you can read whenever you feel like feeding your mind and being thoughtful. The book you read in the early morning outside or late at night in the silence. Its refreshing.
