The book tells of the time, a few years back, when Burns decided to cheer up recently-dumped fellow comedian Barry Castagnola with an escape-from-it-all trip to Vegas.

The title might be obtuse, but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that Brendon Burns is evoking the spirit of Hunter S Thompson with his debut book. Hell, the publishers have even borrowed the ink-scrawled typeface of the great gonzo writer for their cover font. The book tells of the time, a few years back, when Burns decided to cheer up recently-dumped fellow comedian Barry Castagnola with an escape-from-it-all trip to Vegas. With typical self-important bombast Burns paints this not as a typically raucous lads’ week away, but as some sort of mystic quest, pursuing a mental photograph he has convinced himself has transcendental meaning.

Right first things first...I'm a massive fan of Brendon Burns and he's also my absolute favorite stand-up comic, so there!!! You've probably heard of the Australian comic Jim Jefferies, very popular in the USA but fellow Aussie comic Brendon Burns (been based in the UK for over 20 years) seems to of ducked the proverbial comedy radar. Well I've got news for you lot, Jim Jefferies is a fine comedian and he's very funny but Brendon is 'Stanhope' to Jim's 'Burr'! Make sense, well if it doesn't go back to watching Larry the Cable Guy!?! So to the book in question 'Fear of Hat Loss in Las Vegas!', it's absolutely brilliant! What ensues within the piddle stained rhetoric of Brendon’s attempts at a happy moment, makes the movie ‘The Hangover' more resemble a Boy Scout jamboree! It's so damn funny, I know I'm a big fan of Brendon but seriously 'Fear of Hat Loss in Las Vegas' is a masterpiece. Fellow comedian Jimmy Carr notes 'Not only has Brendon been pushing back the boundaries of taste for decades, I'm quite certain he has no idea where they are' and this is coming from Jimmy Carr (his Mosquitos in Africa joke will explain)! You'll be laughing out loud, confused as hell and falling in love with Burnsey from cover to cover! Off you go...right now...order 'Fear of Hat Loss in Las Vegas' and if you don't like it you probably didn't get the 'Orange for a Head' joke!

Brendon Burns is one of my favorite comedians of this era (so I may be a bit biased in the review), however this book truly is an incredible retelling of the true story behind the perfect road trip; a man is on a journey to take his friends on a wild trip to Vegas, in search of a dream, a vision.

Drug use, debauchery, and depravity occur in this wonderful retelling of a road trip with the intention of trying to better understand existence, achieve happiness, seek redemption and above all, enhance and appreciate true friendship.

On the back cover of this novel reads "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas - unless of course it's really funny." And this book is just that... really, really funny. This book will definitely be enjoyed by "The Hangover" crowd, but those that like "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" will truly appreciate the good intentions behind the protagonist, and love all the plot twists that make this book a near spiritual retelling of a journey of a man who wishes to do nothing more than help his friend out through a difficult time.

Brendon Burns is not for everyone though. His comedy is very loud and very offensive (but with good intentions... no seriously). I would recommend watching or listening to any of his material you can get your hands on, so that you might understand and appreciate better the true heart behind the man who makes such audacious comedy.

This is a book written by alleged comic Brendon Burns.Have you ever been in a pub and a group of guys start telling you a story? It sounds like complete twaddle to you, but the guys keep screaming with laughter as they tell it. You're bored stiff because you had to be there to GET the in-joke. Reading this book felt like that. It excludes the reader. Other people's drunken adventures are usually as dull their dreams. Can't understand how this book got published.

Brendon's attitude to women stinks and why any self-respecting woman would go near him is a mystery to me. Foul-mouthed, he lives up to the uncouth Aussie stereotype we all know and hate. The books only redeeming feature is a moving tribute to one of the characters' late father. I checked out B Burns on Youtube in the hope that his stand-up routine might be funnier than the book. It wasn't. Nuf said.

This is not an idle question. That word rains thick and fast on every page of the book and unless you happen to be immune to it, it could make you seriously sick... Brendon and two other comedians decide to go to Las Vegas to have fun, take mushrooms and watch the sunset in the desert. In reality, they are on a mission to get laid, get drugs, and get high.
Brendon's values are often very confused when it comes to women and sex. Like most "blokes", he expects women to be more perfect than he considers himself to be which is an impossible mission... until he discovers, towards the end of the book, that it is his ego that needed adjusting rather than women to his standards.
His attitude to women and sex gave me some unexpected insights into why women may become lesbians: could it be because they had to cope with the like of Brendon in a past life? Could it be the case that they now need to give themselves a well deserved break from straight men and sex? That would make sense to me...

If you can put the general messed-up attitude and confusion about women aside, the book has some genuine positive points about the nature of comedy and friendship: it even can be heart warming on the latter subject.

It is also funny at times. More than anything, it is def. a "bloke" book.
