Dream
I love me some early Madonna. This was a hungry artist who was trying to carve herself a piece of the pie. This album is a fun listen and takes me back to 80's when I was a teen looking for a fun time and it delivers. It's cool to watch artists evolve and grow, but I wish she would go back and re-visit this period. I believe a lot of fans would appreciate something like this. Just some stripped down and straight forward fun dance music. Not everything has to be controversial & avant garde.

Madonna's first album, here nicely remastered with a few extra remixes tossed in, remains a modern day classic.

Listening to this record will immediately transport you back to those heady days in the mid-80's where this music was inescapable. You could spend your Saturday night in a dance club and hear most of these songs played once...most twice.

The songs are true classics of their genre.

"Lucky Star", "Borderline" and "Holiday" are dance songs that have been embraced by a generation. Say what you want about Madonna's limited range, but she uses it in it's entirety, and uses it as good as anyone.

You KNOW these songs. You'll be singing along, and you won't be able to help yourself.

The songs have strong melodies, not that common amongst club songs. The production is similarly strong, and remember, she wasn't anybody yet. She was great out of the box. Now you expect polished production...but she got it from square one.

Other songs, like "Burning Up" (a terrific, up-tempo "rock" screamer), "Physical Attraction" and "Everybody" (two ubiquitous club songs that were played as alternatives to the big hits) make this an impressive debut. For many, "Burning Up" is the highlight of the album.

It's hard to think of it now, being that she's one of the biggest pop stars we've had in the last twenty years, but at the time, she was the underdog pop princess who came out of nowhere.

I was surprised how much I still like this album...

Ah, Madonna at her best and way before auto-tune and sleazy faux-reality tv shows ruined MTV for good. I actually discovered this album completely by accident in the old-fashioned format of a tape - and just KNEW I had to add the CD to my collection, especially at such a bargain price. A must-have for anyone who loves the 80s!!

At the age of 58, Madonna is still going strong in her career but like everyone else, she also had a beginning. With her fiery songs like "Burning Up", she showed from the beginning that she was capable of standing out for herself and her work and defined the definition of a pop star in the 1980s, along with Michael Jackson. This album also has one of her first songs "Everybody" and it's catchy! We also can't miss "Borderline" and "Holiday" which are tuneful and cute. Definitely worth having in your collection.

I bought this album on cassette back in 1984 and it instantly became a favorite of mine. You know it's a good album when you don't at all feel compelled to fast forward through any songs. I never had to with this one. All the songs are fantastic. When I first saw her on TV (on "Solid Gold" around 1983) I didn't think she'd be a huge star, but when I bought this album a few months later, I realized that she would be.

I recently bought it on CD so I could rip the songs and put them on my MP3 player. I have to say I don't think the songs feel dated in any way. They're still as enjoyable and refreshing as ever. I highly recommend buying this album. I wish someone would come around and make an album similar to this so to revive today's brain-dead pop scene. An album like this one is sorely needed today.

Look at that face, man. I am in love with Madonna. She is the sexiest of all the stars EVER! She still is too.
Back in the days when I had a small time garage band, we played a gig doing strait up Madonna songs as a tribute to this kitten. I think we started here with HOLIDAY and LUCKY STAR. These are the obvious hits, but now that I think about it maybe we should have covered BURNIN UP or even BORDERLINE. These songs are pretty solid too.
Madonna is a bad ass, no matter how poppish the songs get, you can't help but like them.
This album IS a little bit dated, and she still sounds very young- compared to the later more assertive sound that her voice obtained. Still, if you a are a fan, you will dig these songs.

Reality: 4 & 1/2 Star Rating

Madonna's CD is nearly perfect. Even on an audiophile scale, only negative would be limited stage depth.
Wholeheartedly recommended!
Madonna's debut album is good just a lot of infectious bubblegum music that for 1983 was a perfect start to an illustrious career. She always knows the pulse of the music scene and this first cd is her " I'm gonna rule the world" foreshadowing of what was to come. Over and over is my favorite hit off the album better than the remix on You Can Dance cd
