One of the major recording artists of the past few decades, David Bowie, who died of cancer aged 69 in January 2016, was also a songwriter, record producer, painter and actor, and constantly re-invented himself in innovative ways, pushing the boundaries of gender identity and creating iconic stage characters such as Ziggy Stardust.

Early in his career David Bowie was driven by a desire to escape the suffocating normality of suburbia, which he described as a desperation to inhabit an otherworld – a world in which he could let his imagination run wild.

David Bowie did hundreds of television, magazine, and newspaper interviews during his half-century career - from a stunning 1972 Melody Maker interview in which he proclaimed he was gay, and a legendary 1974 Dick Cavett Show interview where his cocaine abuse and exhaustion were evident, to a candid 1976 Cameron Crowe interview for Playboy, and on through a funny, revealing 2002 GQ cover. Just a bunch of old interviews in a collection...nothing new from Bowie in the last 15 years.

Um, this book is compiled by Miles, designed by Perry Neville, Omnibus Publications. You'll get a big kick out of it! Black and white photos on every page. Reads up to about 1977 and gives you a look at a quirky, idiosyncratic mind who's exploring all the perimeters of himself. Does he actually like speaking in public? I don't think so. Did he need the attention? It was often a cry for help. But how enjoyable! Because Bowie has taken advantage of these situations all his life, we bascially get to study his words in the eyes of the public from the age of 15, and on. He's definitely said some things he's probably kicked himself for, later. Unlike Madonna, who has relentlessly flapped her lip trying to copy his mystique, Bowie always offers food for thought and lasting inspiration.
